Frequently Asked Questions

Who regulates osteopaths?

The Statutory Register of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) opened on 9th May 1998. The title “Osteopath” became protected by law from 9th May 2000. As a result it is a criminal offence to describe oneself as an osteopath in the UK unless registered with the GOsC. Only practitioners meeting the high standards of safety and competency and with the recognised level of training are eligible to join this register. The GOsC regulates, promotes and develops the profession of osteopathy, maintaining a Statutory Register of those entitled to practise osteopathy.

What are the treatment costs?

Initial consultation (45 mins – 1 hour) £42
Follow-up treatment (30 mins) £40

How many treatments will I need?

It really depends on the problem, but for a recent or uncomplicated injury no more than six and sometimes only two or three. For longer-term, chronic or recurring problems maybe more.

Does it hurt?

Usually treatment is quite relaxing and very rarely painful, though as the body adapts to change you may feel sore or stiff for a few days after.
